Family Support

Riverwood Family Support Service is available to all families living in Riverwood and surrounding suburbs who have children aged 0 – 12 years.

The service provides assistance to families during times of stress, also advocacy and support groups for parents.

In what way do we assist families?

We provide services directed primarily at improvement of family functioning, parent / child relationships, assistance to parents and children in coping with crises.

Bilingual workers: Arabic

Groups available to families:

Playtime

Held Mondays and Fridays from 10:00am to 12:00pm during school term for pre-schoolers and their parents, grandparents, aunties or sisters involving supported, interactive activities.

Early Childhood Sister attends sometimes at  Playtime.

Parents Support Group

Parents Support Group aims to provide assistance to families with parenting issues through:

  • Educational Programs
  • Social Outings
  • Fun-Based Activities
  • Relaxation Exercises

Time to share parenting ideas:
Coping alone, discipline, toilet training, eating problems, health issues.

The program is for parents with children under twelve years.

Every week from 10:00am to 12:00pm.

English Classes

Provided Tuesdays and Thursday from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

3 levels of English – speaking, reading, and writing.

Computer / Basic Keyboarding

Every Tuesdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

These courses are provided by Padstow TAFE during school terms. .

Other services provided include:

  • Home visiting during times of stress and crises
  • Court Support
  • Transport to refuges
  • Domestic violence support
  • Liason with Primary and High Schools
  • Advocacy

During some cources child care are provided free of charge.
